Takayama Chasen – Handcrafted Black Bamboo Matcha Whisk

Handcrafted in Takayama, Nara, Japan, this traditional Takayama Chasen is made entirely by hand by skilled Japanese artisans.

For over 500 years, Takayama has preserved the art of chasen making, and Takayama Chasen was officially designated a Traditional Craft of Japan in 1975.

This whisk is crafted from black bamboo, prized for its naturally deep color and subtle sheen. Its elegant appearance reflects the refined beauty of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

From a single piece of bamboo, approximately 80 delicate prongs are carefully carved and finished by hand to create a smooth, beautifully whisked bowl of matcha.
