This handcrafted matcha whisk is made in Takayama, Ikoma City, Nara Prefecture — the birthplace of Japan’s renowned Takayama Chasen, officially designated as a Traditional Craft of Japan in 1975.
For over 500 years, the artisans of Takayama have carried on this heritage, crafting each whisk entirely by hand with precision and care.

The black bamboo used for this whisk is a rare material that develops its deep, natural color through exposure to the cold winter air.
Its elegant dark tone and gentle sheen reflect quiet strength and refined beauty.

From a single piece of bamboo, about 80 delicate prongs are carved by hand — a process that represents the pinnacle of Japanese craftsmanship.
Each whisk is completed through the collaboration of several highly skilled artisans, requiring time, patience, and mastery.
