Tea Bowl – Kiyomizu Katakuchi

Each one is carefully crafted using the traditional techniques of Kiyomizu ware from Kyoto, a craft that dates back over 400 years to the early Edo period (17th century). Kiyomizu ware is one of the most iconic forms of Kyo-yaki, the collective term for ceramics made in Kyoto. It is celebrated for its delicate craftsmanship, refined colors, and graceful forms—each piece reflecting the spirit of Japanese artistry.

Its glossy finish resists stains and helps prevent matcha from clinging to the surface due to static. The glaze is made with natural materials, creating colors that harmonize beautifully with matcha’s green hue.

In Japan, matcha is usually enjoyed straight from the bowl. But since many people in the U.S. prefer matcha lattes, we designed a katakuchi chawan—a spouted bowl—for easy pouring into another cup.

Every bowl is handcrafted, making each one a truly one-of-a-kind piece. We also use handmade Japanese washi boxes for packaging, creating a special experience from the moment you open it.
