Handcrafted Bamboo Matcha Whisk 80-prong whisk– Takayama Chasen
Handcrafted by Kubo Sabun, a renowned Takayama chasen master from Ikoma City, Nara Prefecture — the birthplace of Japan’s bamboo tea whisks with over 500 years of tradition.
Takayama is celebrated as Japan’s leading region for chasen craftsmanship and was officially designated a Traditional Craft of Japan by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in 1975.
Each whisk is meticulously crafted from a single piece of natural white bamboo, carefully split into 80 delicate prongs (hachijippontate literally means “80-prong whisk”).
This refined structure allows the matcha to froth beautifully into a fine, creamy foam, enhancing both the aroma and the smooth, velvety texture of authentic matcha.
Several artisans collaborate through every stage of production, dedicating hours of precision work to achieve perfect balance, flexibility, and form.
The base thread is specially hand-dyed in a custom RichlyMatcha color, blending traditional Japanese beauty with modern elegance.
A timeless expression of Japanese craftsmanship — each whisk embodies harmony, grace, and the spirit of true artistry.
